Arts and drama

If you're interested in the arts or drama, we have a lot to offer - the College hosts regular workshops, exhibitions, and events.

Societies and clubs

Eliot's Face is a student-run art zine which accepts themed submissions of any kind from members of the College community. The zine is released termly as both an online and printed edition.

Film @ Jesus is a student-run film club which runs regular screenings and termly short film competitions. It aims to bring together like-minded individuals with a passion for film and foster a connected creative community.

Students, Fellows and staff are all welcome at Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ Art Club, which meets regularly during term time. Materials are provided by the College and the organisers set up a subject each week and offer informal support. Members can also use the space to work on their own projects.

Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ Drama Society runs regular writing and performance workshops in College, aiming to encourage creative talent within the community.

Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ Music Society holds many free recitals a term and several large orchestral concerts a year. They also organise the much-loved annual performance of The Snowman in Michaelmas term.

Led by author Emily Winslow, Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ Writing Club holds regular creative writing workshops for students, Fellows and staff during term time. Each session is a mixture of teaching, discussion, writing, and (optional) sharing, where members are encouraged to develop their personal writing style as well as experimenting with unfamiliar forms of writing.

Students run the annual John Hughes Arts Festival, an interdisciplinary celebration of openness, spectacle, and collaboration which usually includes an Open Hang Gallery featuring artwork submitted by students, artists, and friends of the College. The Gallery is accompanied by a range of creative workshops and events.

Exhibitions

We have a permanent sculpture exhibition in the grounds of the College.

Our undergraduates also have an art collection which includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints by a variety of artists, many well known. For a small deposit, students can borrow pieces from the collection to decorate their rooms.

Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ, my home. I am truly grateful to be able to call Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ my second home. It was my preferred option when I first applied for my MPhil and I could not be happier to still be here during my PhD! There are many reasons why Jesus stands out from the other colleges: from its fantastic facilities to its glorious formal dinners and to its wonderful café and brewery room. The Quincentenary Library is a lovely place to study. It has many spaces to choose from and everything...

Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and historical colleges at Cambridge! It is also, in my opinion, one of the most supportive colleges: from wellbeing to the porters there is always someone to ask for advice, support, or to talk through your stress. I chose Jesus for many reasons. Firstly, it’s right in the heart of the city centre which is amazing not only for that quick top-up shop but also to explore the beautiful city of Cambridge even while busy (it’s so easy to go for...

I chose Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ because of the great mixture of undergraduates and postgraduates, and when I first visited I thought it was the most beautiful place I had ever seen! The sense of community in Jesus has had an enormous impact on my experience here. Whether you need help, advice, cheering up or even just a chat there is always someone there to put a smile on your face. From the MCR committee to the Porters, the canteen staff to the gardeners, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Jesus also...

I chose Cambridge for my PGCE as it’s the leading UK institution for teacher training and Education, with an exciting, research-dominated, cutting edge course. The staff are welcoming and approachable, and make studying here an absolute joy. I’ve already completed one of my three primary school placements, in a reception class in a school just outside Cambridge, and am due to start the next one soon. I chose Jesus because of its reputation as a sporty College, but the proximity to the city centre is a big bonus. Jesus also...

Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ has been a great home for me during my PhD. I chose Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ for a number of reasons – first, the location. We are central enough to be within easy walking distance of most things, but far enough away to avoid the hustle and bustle (and tourists in summer!). The College also has extensive grounds, with amenities like the hockey pitch, football pitch and tennis courts all on site. Secondly, the accommodation is some of the best I’ve seen in Cambridge. My house was newly renovated when...
